Kids are a lot smarter than people give credit for. I understood death at 4 because I was exposed to the concept through one of my great grandmother's and a dog passing, and maybe media like movies. As far as realizing someone isn't coming back without knowing they're dead, it's more of a matter of giving up on hope they'll come back.

Generally i would say 8-10 years of age dpends on what will be in her environment if Its gonna be something like a lot of horor movies or negative influence like that she might realize it early but that's just my theory

Boss seems to be elitist at best. On episode 8 he refers to Kazuki as some sort of plebian. And he is absolute about preserving their family blood and legacy, so I don't think that will work.
